About Me

Shirley Springs kratz was raised in Marion, SC and Myrtle Beach, SC. She attended Columbia College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in chemistry, and worked as  a medical research assistant at MUSC.  She has lived in Charleston and Mount Pleasant for 45 years. She finally began to enjoy her life-long  love of creating all kinds of  art and painting after leaving research to stay home with her children. For 25 years she was a tile and ceramic artist and owner of Complements Tile in Mount Pleasant, SC.  She began painting in watercolors in 1978, moving into oils in just the last 5 years. She has studied with numerous local and nationally known artists and is a member of the Charleston Artists Guild, and the Mount Pleasant artist Guild.

I paint because I love art, our Lowcountry, and the ocean. I love the light on  the lovely scenes, people, and  flowers that surround me. Like many aritist, changes in the light on a landscape , flower, or face are what attract me first.
